Press Release 035: Positive Craig COVID-19 Case and Extension of City Facility Closures

On December 11, 2020, the Craig Emergency Operations Center was notified that a positive COVID-19

case had been reported for a Craig resident. Public Health has determined that the source of the infection is listed as “community spread." Generally, this means that the source of the person’s

infection cannot be attributed to travel or secondary infection from other known cases. Community spread usually indicates a higher level of risk to the community since it indicates that there are

contagious persons who have not been identified.

Public Health officials are currently conducting a case investigation and contacting close contacts of the infected person.

This case brings the total positive cases for Craig to seven positive cases since April. The last reported case in Craig was a resident who was not in Craig at the time that the positive result was returned on November 8th. Currently there are 4 active cases on Prince of Wales Island. There has been a total of 30 cases reported on Prince of Wales since April.

Along with these measures it is critical that everyone does their part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 by frequently washing your hands/using hand sanitizer, wearing a mask or cloth face covering when in public, limiting interaction between members of households, maintaining good social distances with people from other households, and staying home from work or school if you are experiencing any symptoms or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. limiting your exposure to other people for 7 – 14 days after you return from your travels.
